This August, Metropolis Cinema presents "Cinema of Love", a three-night open-air screening of musical cinema unfolding over three consecutive weeks in the Metropolis Garden.

Bringing together musicals from France, India, and Egypt, the program offers timeless stories of love through unforgettable music, iconic performances, and newly restored prints that return these classics to the big screen in all their original splendor.

The series opens with Jacques Demy's Palme d'Or-winning masterpiece Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1964), starring Catherine Deneuve in the role that launched her international career. Entirely sung from beginning to end and featuring Michel Legrand's legendary score, the film remains one of the most celebrated musicals in cinema history. Presented in its magnificent restored version, it continues to enchant audiences more than sixty years after its Cannes triumph.

The second evening is dedicated to Muzaffar Ali's Umrao Jaan (1981), one of the crowning achievements of Indian cinema. Winner of four National Film Awards, including Best Actress for Rekha's unforgettable performance, the film is a sumptuous blend of poetry, classical music, dance, and romance that has become an enduring masterpiece of Hindi cinema.

The series concludes with Ali  Reda's Love in Karnak (1967). Set against the breathtaking temples of Luxor, this beloved Egyptian musical combines romance, comedy, and presented in a beautifully restored version that revives one of the great classics of Arab cinema.
