Metropolis Cinema, in partnership with the Italian Embassy to Lebanon and the Italian Cultural Institute in Beirut and the Delegation of The European Union to Lebanon, presents a cycle dedicated to Monica Vitti, one of the most singular and captivating presences in Italian cinema, through four restored masterpieces directed by Michelangelo Antonioni.

Together, L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), L’Eclisse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964) trace a defining chapter in the collaboration between Vitti and Antonioni, whose films transformed the language of cinema. With her enigmatic presence, expressive silences and remarkable ability to convey inner turmoil, Vitti became the face of Antonioni’s explorations of alienation, desire and the fragile connections between people.

From the disappearance that unsettles L’Avventura to the emotional estrangement of La Notte, the elusive relationships of L’Eclisse and the industrial landscapes and psychological unease of Il deserto rosso, these films reveal a world in which feelings resist explanation and the spaces we inhabit reflect the distances between us.

Presented in restored versions, this cycle offers an opportunity to rediscover four essential works of modern cinema and the extraordinary artistic dialogue between an actress and a filmmaker.
