الفيلم اقتباس حرّ عن رواية "لاعب الشطرنج" لشتيفان زفايغ، ويتناول قصة ثنائي شاب من المتمرّدين يفرّ من الدبابات الروسية التي غزت المجر للتو. وبعد أن تمكّنا من الصعود إلى قطارٍ يقلّ لاجئين، تنكشف خلال مباراة شطرنج حكايات كثيرة. وفي نهاية المطاف، يتبيّن أن الحقيقة مغايرة تمامًا لما بدت عليه.

A free adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s “The Royal Game”. A young rebel couple is escaping from the Russian tanks that have just invaded Hungary. Managing to board a refugee train, many stories are revealed during a chess game. And, in the end, nothing is what it seemed.

Libre adaptation du “Joueur d’échecs” de Stefan Zweig, le film suit un jeune couple de rebelles fuyant les chars russes qui viennent d’envahir la Hongrie. Alors qu’ils parviennent à monter à bord d’un train de réfugiés, de nombreuses histoires sont révélées au fil d’une partie d’échecs. Au bout du compte, tout s’avère différent de ce que l’on imaginait.
