في لبنانٍ أنهكته الحروب، تسعى امرأة حامل تدعى سارة إلى حماية نفسها و جنينها من مخاطر الولادة، فتستدعي قابلة هجينة بشرية-آلية (سايبورغ) من دولةٍ تكنو-إقطاعية مجاورة. لكن سارة تكتشف أن مساعدة القابلة ليست بلا شروط، وأن ثمن الأمان قد يكون خسارة ما هو الأهم.

DOULA is a near-future sci-fi that explores the violence of 'benevolent' systems and the cost of safety. In a war-ravaged Lebanon, a pregnant woman named Sarah protects herself and her unborn baby from the risk of childbirth by summoning a trans-human Doula from a neighbouring techno-feudal state. But Sarah discovers that the Doula’s help is conditional and that the price of safety may be losing what matters most.

Doula est un film de science-fiction qui interroge la violence tapie au cœur des systèmes sécuritaires et le prix humain de la sécurité qu’ils promettent. Dans un Liban ravagé par la guerre, Sarah, enceinte, fait appel à une Doula transhumaine venue d’un État techno-féodal voisin, où la technologie promet de rendre l’accouchement sans risque. Mais derrière cette promesse, Sarah découvre peu à peu un système qui exige de prendre le contrôle pour garantir la sécurité. Ce qui devait être un refuge devient une menace, et protéger son enfant signifie bientôt choisir ce qu’elle est prête à sacrifier pour rester libre.
