1913, Budapest, in the heart of Europe. The young Irisz Leiter arrives in the Hungarian capital with high hopes to work as a milliner at the legendary hat store that belonged to her late parents, but she is sent away by the new owner. Refusing to leave the city, the young woman follows what seems to be her brother’s tracks, her only link to a lost past. Her quest brings her through the dark streets of Budapest,  into the turmoil of a civilization on the eve of its downfall.

1913, au cœur de l’empire austro-hongrois. Irisz Leiter rêve de travailler dans le célèbre magasin de chapeaux, autrefois tenu par ses parents. Lorsqu’Írisz apprend qu'elle a un frère dont elle ne sait rien, elle cherche à clarifier les mystères de son passé. A la veille de la guerre, cette quête sur ses origines familiales va entraîner Irisz dans les méandres d’un monde au bord du chaos.

في عام 1913، في قلب الإمبراطورية النمساوية المجرية. تعود "إيريس ليتير" إلى بودابست بعدما قضت طفولتها في ميتم. ويتحطّم حلمها بالعمل في متجر القبّعات الشهير، الذي أداره سابقاً والداها، بسبب المالك الجديد. وعندما تعلم "إيريس" بأنّ لها شقيقاً لا تدري به على الإطلاق، تشرع في البحث عنه لإيضاح أسرار الماضي. وعشية الحرب، يقودها هذا البحث عن جذورها العائلية إلى دهاليز عالمٍ على حافة الفوضى.
