Leaving her native village to follow her dream of becoming an actress, Hiam Abbass also left behind her mother, grandmother and seven sisters. Thirty years later, her filmmaker daughter Lina returns with her to journey through the vanished places among the scattered memories of four generations of daring Palestinian women.

Set between past and present, “Bye Bye Tiberias” pieces together images of today, family footage from the nineties and historical archives to portray four generations of daring Palestinian women who keep their story and legacy alive through the strength of their bonds, despite exile, dispossession, and heartbreak.

غادرت هيام عّباس قريتها الفلسطينية حيث ترعرعت لتحقق حلمها بالعمل كممثلة في أوروبا، تاركة خلفها والدتها، وجدّتها وشقيقاتها السبع. بعد مرور ثلاثين عاماً، تعود ابنتها المخرجة لينا سويلم معها إلى القرية لتُسائل والدتها للمرة الأولى عن الخيارات الجريئة التي اتخذتها وعن منفاها المختار، كما تأثير النساء في العائلة على حياتهما. 

يتأرجح فيلم «باي باي طبريا» بين الماضي والحاضر ُمبرزًا صورًا من الحاضر ولقطات فيديو عائلية تعود إلى التسعينات وأرشيفات تاريخية، ليوثّق أربعة أجيال من النساء الفلسطينيات الشجاعات اللواتي يحافظن على قصتهنّ وإرثهنّ من خلال الروابط المتينة التي تجمعهنّ، رغم المنفى والحرمان والأسى.
