The focus of this talk will be the film ‘Hot Milk’ which was a collaboration between Sound Designer Rana Eid and Re-recording Mixer Rob Walker. How do we find common ways to talk about sound events so we can shape them together with the director? How do we collectively discover the creative choices that become the film’s ‘sound language’?
سيركّز هذا الحوار على فيلم “Hot Milk”، وهو ثمرة تعاون بين مصممة الصوت رنا عيد ومصمّم الصوت ومهندس إعادة التسجيل روب ووكر. كيف نجد طرقًا مشتركة للحديث عن الأحداث الصوتية لنتمكن من صياغتها مع المخرج؟ كيف نكتشف معًا الخيارات الإبداعية التي تُصبح "لغة صوت" الفيلم؟

About Rob Walker
Rob Walker is a Re-recording Mixer and Sound Designer born in Manchester, UK. He is known for film, TV and documentary which have won multiple prizes at top festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice and beyond. His work crosses many genres and styles from top ten box office thrillers to 8 hour Japanese slow cinema film, from Venice Biennale installations to supernatural horror.
His recent work includes collaborations on the musical ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ (dir: Mona Fastvold) and ‘Tuner’ (dir: Daniel Roher). The documentary ‘Direct Action’ by Guillaume Cailleau and Ben Russell continues to win multiple awards. He regularly works with DB Studios, Lebanon on projects such as ‘The Burdened’ (Amr Gamal) and ‘After the End of the World’ ( Nadim Mishlawi).
روب ووكر، مصمم صوتٍ ومهندس ميكساج من مواليد مانشستر في المملكة المتّحدة. اشتُهر بأعماله السينمائية والتلفزيونية والوثائقية التي حازت على العديد من الجوائز بمهرجانات مرموقة مثل مهرجان كان وبرلين والبندقية وغيرها. تتنوع أعماله بين أنواع وأساليب فنية مختلفة: من أفلام الرعب التجارية على شبّاك التذاكر إلى أفلام السينما اليابانيّة البطيئة التي قد تبلغ مدّتها أحيانا 8 ساعات، ومن أعمال بينالي البندقيّة إلى أفلام الرعب الخارقة للطبيعة. ومن بين أعماله الأخيرة تعاونٌ في المسرحية الموسيقية «The Testament of Ann Lee» (إخراج: منى فاستفولد) و«Tuner» (إخراج: دانيال روهر). كما أنّ فيلم «Direct Action» الذي عمل عليه مع المُخرجين غيوم كايو وبن راسل مازال يحصد جوائز متعددة. يعمل روب ووكر بانتظام مع DB Studios في لبنان على مشاريع مثل «المرهقون» (إخراج: عمر جمال) و«ما بعد النهاية» (إخراج: نديم مشلاوي).
About Rana Eid
Rana Eid, born in 1976 in Beirut, studied cinema and film sound at Université Saint Joseph, IESAV. She has worked as a sound designer since 2003, collaborating with Lebanese filmmakers like Joanna Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige on "Memory Box", Ghassan Salhab on "1958", "The Mountain", "The Valley", and Mohammad Soueid on "The Insomnia of a Serial Dreamer". Upcoming projects include "Hot Milk" by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and "The Wave" by Sebastián Lelio. In 2006, she co-founded DB Studios for audio post-production, now partnered with Polyson/HAL. She has worked on films worldwide, including Oscar nominees "The Cave" (2019) and "Honeyland" (2019). In 2017, she directed her first feature documentary, "Panoptic", which premiered at Locarno. Eid is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE).
رنا عيد من مواليد بيروت عام 1976، درست السينما والصوت السينمائيّ في معهد الدراسات المسرحية والسمعية البصرية والسينمائية (IESAV) في جامعة القديس يوسف في بيروت. تعمل كمصممة صوت منذ عام 2003، وقد تعاونت مع مخرجين لبنانيين مثل جوانا حاجي توما وخليل جريج في فيلم «صندوق الذاكرة»، والمخرج غسان سلهب في أفلامه «1958» و«الجبل» و«الوادي»، والمخرج محمد سويد في فيلمه «يوم بلا غد». وتتضمن مشاريعها القادمة فيلم «Hot Milk» لريبيكا لينكيفيتش و«The Wave» لسباستيان ليليو. وقد شاركت رنا عام 2006 في تأسيس إستوديوهات DB لما بعد الإنتاج الصوتيّ التي أصبحت اليوم شريكًا لـ.Polyson/ HAL وقد عملت رنا عيد على أفلامٍ عالميّة، منها فيلمان رُشّحا لجائزة الأوسكار، وهما «الكهف» عام 2019 وفيلم «Honeyland» في العام ذاته. وقد أخرجت أول أفلامها الوثائقيّة الطويلة عام 2017 بعنوان «Panoptic» الذي عُرض للمرة الأولى في مهرجان لوكارنو السينمائي. كما أنّها عضوٌ في أكاديمية فنون الصور المتحرّكة وعلومها وفي لجنة تحرير الصوت في الصور المتحركة (MPSE).
