Inspired from the Vietnamese revolution, the call to transform every Arab capital into a Haboi for the Palestinian revolution echoed far and wide in the past century's 1960s and 1970s, this documentary film delves into the encounter of the Vietnamese experience with the Palestinian experience, exploring traces of what remains today in Beirut, the Arab capital known to have emblematized, par excellence, teh notion of an Arab Hanoi from the moment of the outbreak of the civil war in 1975 until the withdrawl of the Palestinian fighters after the Israeli invasion in 1982. 

The film tells the story of Hatem Hatem, known by the nom de guerre as Abu Hassan Hanoi. He was born in south Lebanon and affiliated to Fat'h, fought amongst its brigades. After the Israeli invasion, Abu Hassan Hanoi lost his connection with Fat'h, he moved southward to his native village and distanced himself from political engagement. The only living witness to his biography was his son, Hassan, a filmmaker who lives and works in the UAE. 

Throughout the film, which he intended as a letter to his father, Hassan revisits the memory of Fat'h's Vietnamese moment in Lebanon. He travels between Beirut, Dubai and Hanoi, recording significant instances in these three cities, honing on their relationship to revolution, economy, war and urban growth.

من وحي الثورة الفيتنامية، ودعوة تحويل كل عاصمة عربية إلى هانوي عملًا بشعارات الثورة الفلسطينية التي تردد صداها على نطاق واسع في ستينات القرن الماضي وسبعيناته، يتناول هذا الفيلم تفاعل التجربة الفيتنامية مع التجربة الفلسطينية، مستكشفًا آثار ما تبقى من أثرها في بيروت، العاصمة العربية التي جسدت، بامتياز، فكرة هانوي العربية منذ اندلاع الحرب الأهلية عام 1975 وحتى انسحاب المقاتلين الفلسطينيين بعد الغزو الإسرائيلي عام 1982.

يروي الفيلم قصة حاتم حاتم، المعروف باسم أبو حسن هانوي. وُلد في جنوب لبنان، وكان منتميًا إلى حركة "فتح"، ومقاتلًا في صفوفها. بعد الغزو الإسرائيلي، انقطع أبو حسن هانوي عن حركة "فتح"، وانتقل جنوبًا إلى قريته الأصلية، ومبتعدًا عن العمل السياسي. الشاهد الوحيد الباقي على قيد الحياة في سيرته هو ابنه حسن، مخرج أفلام يعيش ويعمل في الإمارات العربية المتحدة.

طوال الفيلم، يخاطب حسن والده برسالة تستعيد ذكريات مرحلة "فتح" في لبنان، وينقل انطباعاته عن ثلاث مدن شهد فيها أحداثًا مهمة، بيروت ودبي وهانوي، مركزاً على علاقتها بالثورة والاقتصاد والحرب والتوسع العمراني.

Mohamed Soueid is a Lebanese writer, director and producer. Born in Beirut 1959. He is currently the Head of Documentary department at Al Arabiya News Channel. As a director, he has directed several films, including: ”The Insomnia Of A Serial Dreamer” [Documentary Essay, 170’, 2020], “Hanging Dates Under Aleppo’s Citadel” [ documentary, 90’, Al Arabiya TV, 2013], “A Spell of Absence” [ documentary, 90’, Al Arabiya TV, 2011], “How Bitter My Sweet” [documentary, 90’, Al Arabiya TV, 2009], “My Heart Beats Only For Her”  [documentary, 87’, Al Arabiya TV, 2008], “The Sky Is Not Always Above” [documentary, 95’, Al-Arabiya TV, 2007], “Civil War”[documentary, 84 minutes, DV, Lebanon, 2002], “Nightfall” [documentary, 68’, Lebanon, 2000], “Tango of Yearning” [documentary, 70’, Lebanon, 1998. Winner of the Best Documentary Director Prize at Beirut International Film Festival in Beirut 2000].    

In addition to the above mentioned titles, Mohamed Soueid wrote 3 books: "Postponed Cinema - Lebanese Films During the Civil War" (Essay, Published in Beirut 1986); "O Heart - A Film Autobiography On The Late Movie Theatres Of Old Beirut, Published in Beirut, 1996); "Cabaret Souad" (Novel, Published in Beirut, 2004).

محمد سويد كاتب ومخرج ومنتج لبناني. وُلد في بيروت عام 1959 ويشغل حاليًا منصب رئيس قسم الأفلام الوثائقية في قناة العربية الإخبارية. من بين الأفلام التي أخرجها: يوم بلا غد (فيلم وثائقي، 170 دقيقة، 2000), بلح تعلّق تحت قلعة حلب (فيلم وثائقي، 90 دقيقة، قناة العربية، 2013), سحر الغائب (فيلم وثائقي، 90 دقيقة، قناة العربية، 2011), بحبك يا وحش (فيلم وثائقي، 90 دقيقة، قناة العربية، 2009), ما هتفت لغيرها (فيلم وثائقي، 87 دقيقة، قناة العربية، 2008), السماء أينما تشاء (فيلم وثائقي، 95 دقيقة، قناة العربية، 2007), حرب أهلية (فيلم وثائقي، 84 دقيقة، لبنان، 2002), عندما يأتي المساء (فيلم وثائقي، 68 دقيقة، لبنان، 2000), تانغو الأمل (فيلم وثائقي، 70 دقيقة، لبنان، 1998، حائز جائزة أفضل إخراج وثائقي في مهرجان بيروت السينمائي الدولي 2000)
