Using rare cinematic, photographic and sound archives, Xaraasi Xanne-Crossing Voices recounts the exemplary adventure of Somankidi Coura, an agricultural cooperative created in Mali in 1977 by western African immigrant workers living in workers' residences in France. The story of this improbable, utopic return to the Sahel region follows a winding path that travels through the ecological and decolonial challenges and conflicts of agriculture practices and sensing from the 1970s to the present day. One of the major actors of the movement, Bouba Touré, tells this story by plunging into the heart of his personal archives, which document the fights of farmers in France and in Mali, as well as those of immigrant workers, over a period of decades. The film is also a story about dialogues and transmission, friendships and cinematic geographies. Over the course of the film, different voices, enter the sound-scape to accompany Bouba Touré's telling; they bring the tale of a forgotten memory toward a possible future sung by a polyphonic griot.

باستخدام أرشيفات سينمائية وفوتوغرافية وصوتية نادرة، يروي فيلم «خراسي خنّه: أصوات عابرة» مغامرة نموذجية جرت في مكان اسمه سومانكيدي كورا، وهو تعاونية زراعية أُنشئت في مالي عام 1977 على يد عمّال مهاجرين من غرب إفريقيا كانوا يقيمون في مساكن العمّال في فرنسا. وتتبع حكاية هذه العودة اليوتوبية غير المتوقعة إلى إقليم الساحل مسارًا متعرجًا تتخلله التحديات والصراعات البيئية ونقاشات حول نزع الاستعمار وعلاقة ذلك بالممارسات الزراعية، منذ سبعينيات القرن الماضي حتى يومنا هذا. ويروي أحد الناشطين الرئيسيين في هذه الحركة، بوبا توريه، القصة باستخدام أرشيفه الشخصي، الذي يوثّق نضالات المزارعين في فرنسا ومالي، وكذلك نضالات العمّال المهاجرين، على امتداد عقود. ويسرد الفيلم أيضًا حكاية عن الحوار وانتقال المعرفة، وعن الصداقات والجغرافيات السينمائية. وعلى مدار الفيلم، تدخل أصوات متعدّدة إلى المشهد السمعي لترافق سرد بوبا توريه، فتسترجع ذاكرةً منسيّة نحو مستقبل ممكن، يُنشده "غريوت" (مغني في غرب إفريقيا) متعدد الأصوات.

About Raphaël Grisey & Bouba Touré

Raphaël Grisey. Born in 1979, lives in Berlin. Grisey uses film, editorial and photographic works to address politics of memory, architecture, migration and farming (such as the films Prvi Deo, Red Star 2006 with F. Lazar; Cooperative, 2008; The Exchange of Perspectives ; Minhocão, 2011; Amor e Progresso, 2014; Remanescentes 2015).
 

Bouba Touré. 1948-2022, lived in Paris and Somankidi Coura, Mali. He lived in France in the Foyer Pinel from 1965 and worked at the metal factory Chausson until 1969. He studied at the Vincennes University and was a projectionist at Cinema 14 Juillet and L’entrepôt, Paris. Photographer since the 1970s, he documented the lives and struggles of migrant workers and peasants in France and Mali. Touré co-founded the Co-op of Somankidi Coura in 1977. In 2015, he published the book Notre case est à Saint Denis, Xérographes Publishers. Since the 1980s, Touré has exhibited works and given talks in associative and foyer’s circles and more recently in art institutions. His photographic work has been presented amongst other places at the Bamako Encounters 2019 and in the Hamburg photography Triennale in 2022.

Since 2006 Touré and Grisey worked together on collaborative projects with the current name of Sowing Somankidi Coura, a Generative Archive since 2015. It lead to various workshops, film and theatre production for example with the theatre group Kaddu Yaraax in 2017 and 2019, as well as publications and texts, such as Sowing Somankidi Coura, a Generative Archive (2017, Archives Book publishers) Their works were shown amongst other venue at Kàddu Yaraax Theatre Forum Festival (SN), Kunsthall Trondheim (NO), Archive Kabinett, Savvy Contemporary, HKW, Neue Berliner Kunstverein (DE), Den Fries (DK), 9th Contour Biennale (BE), Parco Arte Vivente (IT), Un Lieu pour Respirer, Centre Pompidou (FR), Dhaka Art Summit (BD), Open Justice (CA) and in Konsthall Göteborg (SE). Their long feature film Xarassi Xanne-Crossing Voices has been awarded in 2022 at the Festival du Réel, at the Festival Cinema Africano Tarifa Tanger (FCAT) and in the Archivio Aperto festival and shown at the Toronto Hotdocs Festival, Doclisboa, Open City, Fidadoc, Fespaco and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, amongst other festivals and venues.

ولد رافاييل غريزي عام 1979 وهو يعيش في برلين. يستخدم غريزي الفيلم والأعمال الفوتوغرافية والتحريرية كأداة للتعبير عن سياسات الذاكرة والطراز المعماري والهجرة والزراعة، وبعض الأفلام التي أنتجها هي: Prvi Deo وRed Star عام 2006 مع ف. لازار وCooperative عام 2008 وThe Exchange of Perspectives و Minhocãoعام 2011 وAmor e Progresso عام 2014 وRemanescentes  عام 2015.

بوبا توري، 1948–2022، عاش في باريس وفي سومانكيدى كورا بمالي. أقام في فرنسا في "فواييه بينيل" في عام 1965، وعمل في مصنع "شوسون" للمعادن حتى عام 1969. درس في جامعة "فانسان"، وعمل مشغّل عروض سينمائية في سينما 14 يوليو و L’entrepôtفي باريس. وهو مصوّر منذ سبعينيات القرن العشرين، وثّق حياة ونضالات العمّال المهاجرين والفلاحين في فرنسا ومالي. شارك في تأسيس تعاونية سومانكيدى كورا عام 1977، وفي عام 2015 نشر كتاب Notre case est à Saint Denis عن دارXérographes. ومنذ ثمانينيات القرن العشرين عرض أعماله وألقى محاضرات في الأوساط الجمعوية وبيوت الإقامة، ثم لاحقًا في مؤسسات فنية. وقد قُدّم عمله الفوتوغرافي، من بين أماكن أخرى، في «لقاءات باماكو» عام 2019 وفي ترينالي هامبورغ للتصوير عام 2022.

ومنذ عام 2006 عمل توري وغريزي معًا في مشاريع تعاونية تحت الاسم الحالي Sowing Somankidi Coura وهو أرشيف توليدي منذ عام 2015. وأسفر هذا التعاون عن ورش عمل وإنتاجات سينمائية ومسرحية، من بينها أعمال مع فرقة المسرح "كَدّو ياراخ" عامي 2017 و2019، إضافة إلى منشورات ونصوص مثلSowing Somankidi Coura, a Generative Archive  الصادر عام 2017 عن Archives Book Publishers. عُرضت أعمالهما في عدد من الفضاءات، منها مهرجان منتدى مسرح كَدّو ياراخ في السنغال، وكونستهل تروندهايم في النرويج، وأرشيف Kabinett، وSAVVY Contemporary، وبيت الثقافات العالمية، والجمعية الفنية البرلينية الجديدة في ألمانيا، وDen Fries في الدانمارك، وبينالي كونتور التاسع في بلجيكا، وحديقة الفن الحي في إيطاليا، وUn Lieu Pour Respirer ومركز بومبيدو في فرنسا، وقمّة دكا للفنون في بنغلادش، و«العدالة المفتوحة» في كندا، وكذلك في كونستهل غوتنبرغ في السويد. أما فيلمهما الطويل Xarassi Xanne – Crossing Voices فقد نال جوائز عام 2022 في مهرجان Festival du Réel، ومهرجان السينما الإفريقية بطريفة طنجة، ومهرجان Archivio Aperto، كما عُرض في مهرجان Toronto Hotdocs، ومهرجان لشبونة للأفلام، وأوبن سيتي، وFidadoc، وFespaco، ومهرجان ياماغاتا الدولي للأفلام الوثائقية، إلى جانب مهرجانات وفضاءات أخرى.
